Federal Doughnuts, which has nearly a dozen locations across Philadelphia, was named to Feast and Field's list of the Top 25 Donut Shops in the US.
"Known for 'its affordable comfort classics in unexpected flavors,' Federal comes from five hospitality pros," Feast and Field writes.
"Stop in for customer favorites, including their signature 'Hot' or 'Fancy Donuts,' served with their twice-fried, super-crispy chicken coated in dry seasonings, savory glazes or naked."
Federal Donuts is the brainchild of five hospitality professionals including James Beard Award winning restaurateurs, its website says. Doughnuts at Federal Donuts are fried twice, some tossed in a blend of sugars and other stopped with a rotating selection of imaginative glazes, its website says.
The shop's crispy chicken sandwich, the "Philly favorite Chicken Sandwich," is a twice-fried boneless chicken breast dusted in house ranch seasoning, and topped with American cheese, dill pickles, and the shop’s not-so-secret recipe for “Spicy Rooster Sauce”, all on a Martin’s Potato Roll, the Federal Donuts website says.
